Cruising asymmetrical spinnaker for furling NS Code 66
from € 830 | $ 980

If you’re looking for an easy-to-handle asymmetrical spinnaker, our cruising Code Zero is a perfect all-round solution. It’s an affordable and simple furling gennaker option. The NS Code 66 is a sail made of thick nylon spinnaker fabric with an anti-torsion soft stay in the luff. It’s an excellent choice for those who prefer to use a single sail in a wide range of weather conditions.

Cruising Code Zero can be used with or without a furler. This gennaker’s midgirth is less than that of a standard A2 – the luff can almost be stretched into a line. The sail is extremely easy to handle, as it resembles a large genoa. The NS Code 66 is especially handy while on a furler; it’s easy to hoist and remove single-handedly. At the same time, this asymmetric offers a pretty wide wind angle coverage: sail a bit deeper than Close Reach in light winds or go a bit more downwind than Broad Reach in strong winds. This universal spinnaker sail is an excellent addition for modern sailboats with a fractional rig, where a small jib staysail would be very conveniently complemented by such a cruising gennaker.

The NS Code 66 gennaker is a sail of medium middle girth designed for use in moderate winds (4 on the Beaufort scale, or up to approximately 14 knots). The luff of this spinnaker can be stretched in line allowing the sail to be used while Close Reaching. At the same time, the relatively long leech helps to hold the wind on the Broad Reach. This is a fairly versatile asymmetric which performs well in apparent wind of approximately 50 to 140 degrees.

Like any sail, Code 66 spinnaker could be purchased via a custom order, but it is not as demanding on the design project as the main upwind sails. That is why we offer a line of gennaker models constructed for different boat sizes ranging from 7 to 19 meters or from 24 to 60 feet.

Each standard size of NS Gennaker will fit a wide range of boat. You are free to either put this asymmetric on a Code Zero furler, or hoist the sail manually. As an option, you can order a Racing Bag for your spinnaker — a specialized bag that will make the process of hoisting and removing your sail easier. This extremely convenient alternative to a standard drawstring sail bag features battens to maintain its shape, handles, Velcro, special hooks for attaching to the lifelines and organizing the sail’s corners inside, plus ventilation holes.

If you want a furling cruising Code Zero, we highly recommend picking the optional Velcro strips on the clew. They help to keep the sail furled, making it much easier to raise, lower and store your asymmetrical spinnaker. The optional soft clew also helps with furling, making the corner lighter and more flexible.

We cooperate with the largest sail-making factories in the world, which serve, among other things, very famous sail lofts with big brand names.

Large volumes of materials and quantity of orders allow our manufacturer to make sails at a very competitive prices, using a wide supply of fabric.

How to choose a proper size of a standard NS Code 66 sail for your yacht?

A very important thing is to correctly determine the size of the asymmetric which would be suitable for your sailboat. To do this, you will need to measure the distance from the spinnaker halyard exit on the mast to the tack attachment point on the bow or extended bowsprit of a boat. Please, bear in mind that this distance will be further reduced by shackles, halyard knot, etc. It is also advisable to leave some free length of the halyard to allow for sail adjustment.

Easiest way here is to take a long tape measure with a ring at the end to secure it to the halyard and hoist it up until it stops. By taking a measurement at the tack attachment point, you will get the required distance minus the spinnaker halyard knot and the shackle or carabiner.

Subtract from this distance a small amount of about 150-200mm for the free halyard.

The result is an approximate luff length of the gennaker (Luff) that would be ideal for your boat. Based on this data, you can check the table above to choose the closest option, rounding down.

If we are choosing an asymmetrical spinnaker for furling, then we must take into account the dimensions of the upper swivel and the furling drum with a shackle in order to also subtract them from the total length obtained during measurement.

It is recommended to take a smaller gennaker for furling. So, to calculate the luff we add only 4% and also select the closest option.

In the majority of cases, Code Zero furler is very easy to use, and a sail with a stretched luff furls without any problems. However, it’s important to follow recommendations to match sail size to the furler model. Code Zero type spinnakers place significantly more stress on the furling mechanism while reaching than larger girth gennakers, requiring a certain safety margin.

Should you require any help with rig measurements or additional explanations, feel free to contact us. We are always happy to help you select sails and necessary equipment.
