If you are looking to buy an asymmetrical spinnaker, our standard gennaker sail suit many sailors perfectly. An advantageous and easy to pick option as a first downwind sail. Do you need a simple and durable training spinnaker for regattas? Do you love cruising your sailboat without complex sail adjustments? Look no further – this is the sail for you!
A gennaker or asymmetrical spinnaker is a sail that does not require a spinnaker boom or its associated rigging. Large downwind sails are highly praised by cruising yachtsmen around the world. This type of sail is relatively easy to handle as it does not require a full crew to hoist and manage. A gennaker is much safer than a symmetrical spinnaker because there is no need to work on the bow of the boat. At the same time, an asymmetrical spinnaker or an asymmetric significantly expands the boat’s sailing capabilities, especially in light winds. The power that such a sail provides to a yacht cannot be obtained under any jib or genoa.

There is a similar chart for standard symmetrical spinnakers.

The A2 type asymmetrical spinnaker is a full cut, powerful sail designed for use in light and moderate winds (4 Beaufort wind scale or up to approximately 16 knots). Long Luff allows the gennaker to move freely into the wind in the deep broad reach and running courses. At the same time, this is a fairly versatile asymmetric sail that performs rather well at apparent wind angle of about 80 to 160 degrees.
Like any sail, an asymmetrical spinnaker could be ordered individually, but it is not as demanding on the design project as the main upwind sails. That is why we offer a line of gennaker models constructed for different boat sizes ranging from 6 to 20 meters or from 18 to 65 feet.
Each standard size of NS Gennaker will fit a wide range of boat. You are free to either put this asymmetric on a top-down furler, or hoist the sail manually. It is also possible to opt for a spinnaker sleeve as an alternative to a gennaker furler.
We cooperate with the largest sail-making factories in the world, which serve, among other things, very famous sail lofts with big brand names.
Large volumes of materials and quantity of orders allow our manufacturer to manufacture sails at a very competitive prices, using a wide supply of standard fabric.
How to choose a proper size of a standard asymmetrical spinnaker / gennaker for your yacht?
A very important thing is to correctly determine the size of the asymmetric which would be suitable for your yacht. To do this, you will need to measure the distance from the spinnaker halyard exit on the mast to the tack attachment point on the bow of a boat. Please, bear in mind that this distance will be further reduced by shackles, halyard knot, tack strap, etc. It is also advisable to leave some free length of the halyard to allow for sail adjustment.
Easiest way here is to take a long tape measure with a ring at the end to secure it to the halyard and hoist it up until it stops. By taking a measurement at the tack attachment point, you will get the required distance minus the spinnaker halyard knot and the shackle or carabiner.
Subtract from this distance a small amount of about 200mm for the free halyard.
Add 5-8% to this distance to get the approximate luff length of the gennaker (Luff) that would be ideal for your yacht. Based on these data, you can check the table and choose the closest option, rounding down.
If we are choosing an asymmetrical spinnaker for furling, then we must take into account the dimensions of the upper swivel and the furling drum with a shackle in order to also subtract them from the total length obtained during measurement.
It is recommended to take a smaller gennaker for furling. So, to calculate the luff we add only 4% and also select the closest option.
Sometimes it is necessary to simplify the hoisting and removing of the spinnaker – this is especially important for a small team or family on vacation. To do this, you can choose to take a gennaker one size smaller than what is suitable for the boat according to calculations.
